Member of the PSOE, collaborated on the projection of the party in Extremadura. He was elected deputy for Badajoz from 1986 to 2000,being the left hand of  Juan Carlos Rodríguez Ibarra in the House of Representatives during that period. Subsequently, in 2003, he joined the regional politics and was elected deputy for Badajoz in Extremadura Assembly, where it occupies since then as chairman of the Socialist Group, a position he revalidated in 2007, well appointed senator.

In 1987 he entered in to politics at the hands of Jose Maria Aznar, elected president of Castilla y León in the same year as CEO of Heritage and Cultural Promotion in the Castilla y León.
