Between 1991 and 1995 she was deputy in the Regional Assembly of Murcia Cartagena for the constituency of playing the position of deputy spokesman of the Popular Group.

Political Career[edit]

Between 1991 and 1995, she was Deputy in the Regional Assembly of Murcia Cartagena as well as deputy spokeswoman for the People' Party. Pilar Barreiro Alvarez became the first female Mayor in the history of Cartagena. She was re-elected in 1999, 2003, 2007 and 2011. In January 2008, she was appointed by the People's Party of the Region of Murcia as chief candidate for Congress in the general election. She was elected as Deputy with 61.43% of the vote.
