He has been a Deputy at the National Assembly since the year 1999. Always elected by the circle of Lisbon , he is also one of the oldest members of Left Bloc. Presently, he takes part of several parliamentary commissions as the Constitutional Affairs, Rights, Liberties and Guaranties, the National Defense, the Education, Science and Culture, amongst others. On the XI Legislature he was Vice-President of the Portuguese National Assembly.
