Hon. Michael Farrugia has worked for 31 years as doctor, 21 of which he has served as a Member of Parliament. He graduated from the University of Malta as a Doctor and has worked as a family doctor. He is an active volunteer in the culture and sports sectors.  
He was re-elected on the 12th District in the 2013 General Election. He was appointed as Parliamentary Secretary for Planning and Administrative Simplification in the Office of the Prime Minister in March 2013 and sworn in as Minister for the Family and Social Solidarity on  2 April 2014.
