Wahid Omar

Wahid Omar was born on May 27, 1962, in Kampong Temerlok, Trong, Taiping, Perak. He is a professor of Structural Engineering and was the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Development.

Education[edit]

He received a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Strathclyde in the United Kingdom. He then went on to get his Masters of Science in Bridge Engineering from the University of Surrey. Omar received his PhD in Structural Engineering from the University of Birmingham.

Professional Experience[edit]

He became a professor of structural engineering and is a registered professional engineer with the Board of Engineers Malaysia. He was the Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Teknologi in Malaysia. Starting in 2008, he was the Director of the Office of Asset and Development till 2011. From 2011 to 2013, he was the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Development. Omar is a member of the Asian Concrete Forum, the American Concrete Institute (KL Chapter), and the Institution of Engineers in Malaysia. He has received many awards, including: Anugerah Khidmat Cemerlang UTM 2002, Anugerah Jasa Bakti UTM 2003 (20 years service to UTM), Anugerah Khidmat Cemerlang UTM 2006, Anugerah Khidmat Cemerlang UTM 2010, Bronze Award – 14th Industry Art and Technology Exhibition (INATEX) 2012.
