Piet De Bruyn

Piet De Bruyn is a Belgian politician, a member of the Nieuw-Vlaamse Alliantie (N-VA), he was born in Hasselt on April 2nd 1968. He was a senator from 2010 until 2013. Since February 2013 he has been a member of the Flemish Parliament.

Political career[edit]

In his youth De Bruyns was always very active in civil society organisations such as the Boys Scouts, student societies, the gay movement and the environmental movement. He volunteered at the Centre for Suicide prevention and is now their chairman. His political career started in 1999. In 2007 he became Flemish MP as representative for the N-VA. Piet De Bruyn was spokesman for the Flemish Budget Minister Philippe Muyters from October 2009 until 2010. He was elected in the municipal 2012 elections in Rotselaar. He followed up Kim Geybels in the senate for the period of 2010-2011. In 2013 he had to quit his function as senator when he became a Flemish minister again.

De Bruyn obtained his Masters in History at the Catholic University of Leuven (KUL).
