Nick Raynsford

Nick Raynsford is the Labour Party MP for Greenwich and Woolwich.

Political Career[edit]

His first political position was on the council for Hammersmith and Fulham between 1971 and 1975. Nick Raynsford was MP for Fulham between 1986 and 1987, when he lost his seat. He became an MP again in 1992, but due to boundary changes was originally MP for Greenwich. He became MP for Greenwich and Woolwich in 1997.

He joined the Government in 1997 and held responsibility for housing, planning and construction, as well as being Minister for London. He was responsible for restoring democratic city-wide government to London, creating the new Greater London Authority and commissioning its home at City Hall. Nick was Minister for Local and Regional Government in the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister from 2001 to 2005. Prior to becoming the MP for Greenwich and Woolwich, Nick was Shadow Minister for Housing and Construction from 1994, and front bench spokesman for London from 1993. From 1992-3, Nick was a member of the Environment Select Committee.

Education[edit]

He studied at Repton, and went on to do his degree at Sydney Sussex, Cambridge. He then went on to do a diploma in art and design at the Chelsea School of Art.
