Neil Carmichael

Neil Carmichael is the Conservative MP for Stroud, and has been since 2010. He was born in 1961 in Northumberland.

Political Career[edit]

Neil Carmichael was a Conservative County Councillor in Northumberland from 1989-93, Parliamentary Candidate for Leeds in 1992, and Parliamentary Candidate for the Stroud constituency in 2001 and 2005

Notable Work[edit]

He spent several years as a visiting lecturer in British political history (1945 onwards), European Union policies and institutions, and rural economic development. He has contributed to a number of conferences including on Media and Democracy (Loughborough University), Conservative European Policy (Budapest, University of Central Europe), Commonwealth and the EU (South Bank University) and Sub-national National Capital Transfers (EURA, Warsaw).

Education[edit]

He was educated at St Peter's School in York and the University of Nottingham, where he studied politics.
