Navnit Dholakia
Navnit Dholakia, Lord Dholakia, was born on the 4th March 1937. He is a member of the Liberal Democrats and the deputy leader of the Liberal Democrats in the House of Lords.
Political Career[edit]
Dholakia’s first job in politics was as a member of Brighton Borough Council between 1961 and 1964 in which he represented the Liberal Democrats. He was made a life peer in 1997 receiving the title Baron Dholakia, of Waltham Brooks in the County of West Sussex. From 1997 to 2002 he was the Liberal Democrat whip in the House of Lords and from 2002-2004 he was the Home Affairs Spokesman. He has also held the positions ‘President of the Liberal Democrats’. In 2013 he served on the Draft Voting Eligibility (prisoners) Bill. His main policy interests include ‘Asylum, immigration and nationality’, ‘communities and families’, ‘crime, civil law, justice and rights’ and ‘Parliament, government and politics’.

Dholakia studied at Brighton Technical College.
Notable Work[edit]
Dholaki is a patron of the British branch of Child in Need India. In 2000 he was named ‘Asian of the year’ and won the Pride of India Award in 2005.
