Mehmet Aydin
Mehmet Aydın was born in 1943 in Elazığ. He is one of Turkey's Ministers of State. Mehmet Aydin speaks French, English and Arabic.
Political Career[edit]
Mehmet Aydin is one of Turkey’s Ministers of State. He was formerly the Minister for Religious Institutions, Turkish Population Residing Abroad & Government’s Relations with Central Asian Republics. Before becoming involved in politics, he taught both religion and philosophy at various universities, and served as Dean of the Faculty of Theology at Dokuz Eylül University, from 1993 to 1999.
He is a member of many national and international academic societies and institutions, and was once a member of Higher Advisory Committee for Human Rights.
Academic career[edit]
Mehmet Aydin is also a prolific author. In addition to about fifty articles, his publications, in Turkish, English and Dutch, include Philosophy of Religion, Religion and Morality, Kant’s Moral Argument and Its Influence on Modern British Philosophy, God - World Relationship in Light of Process Philosophy, Critical Self Reflections, Why?, Turkish Contribution to Philosophical Culture, and Islam en Dialoog.
Education[edit]
He graduated from the Faculty of Theology at Ankara University. He later received his Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Edinburgh. Mehmet Aydin became Associate Professor in 1978 and Full Professor in 1984 in philosophy of ethics, politics and religion at universities in Erzurum, Ankara and İzmir. His scholarly contributions were mainly centered in the area of philosophical and religious fields, as well as on broader cultural issues, human right policies, dialogue and other adjacent topics.
