Lord Carrington of Fulham

Matthew Carrington was born on the 19th October 1947. He is a British Politician who is a member of the House of Lords.

Political Career[edit]

Carrington’s first foray into politics came in 1986 when he unsuccessfully contested the Fulham seat at a by-election. Yet, only a year later he was successfully able to win the Fulham seat at the General Election. From 1990-1992 Carrington served as the Parliamentary Private Secretary to John Pattern. Carrington then went on to join John Major’s government as an assistant whip, whilst also serving as Chairman of the Treasury Select Committee.

After losing his seat due to the boundary changes in 1997, Carrington became active in local politics. He was elected as Chairman of the Kensington, Chelsea and Fulham Conservatives on 28th March 2012. Carrington was made a life peer on the 11th September 2013, receiving the title Baron Carrington of Fulham in the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham. As a member of the House of Lords, Carrington is currently serving on the Economic Affairs Committee.

Education[edit]

Carrington was educated at the Lycee Francais Charles De Galle. After this he went on to study at Imperial College London from 1966-1969 graduating with a BSc in physics. Carrington then moved on to attend the London Business School where he received an MBA.
