Lord Balfe

Lord Balfe joined the House of Lords in 2013. He is a Conservative Party Whip.

Political Career[edit]

He was previously one of the UK representatives on the European Economic and Social Committee. He is Chairman of the European Parliament Members Pension Fund. He is also one of the two specialist external Directors on the Geneva based CERN Pension Fund Governing Board.

From 1979 to 2004 he was a Euro MP. He took a particular interest in Foreign Affairs and in Turkey’s application for EU Membership. He is also a trained mediator accredited by the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution.

Lord Balfe holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Policy and Administration from the London School of Economics and since 1972 has been a fellow of the Royal Statistical Society.
