Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, born the 28th of 1986, is an American singer, songwriter, and actress. Lady Gaga became a star with her album The Fame (2008). Gaga is known by her diverse contributions to the music industry via her fashion, live performances, and music videos. Besides her music contribution, Lady Gaga is known for her philanthropic contributions and activism. activism for LGBT rights.

Philanthropic Donations[edit]

Lady Gaga is contributing to various charities such as natural disasters programs. One of them is the "We Are the World 25" to benefit victims of the 2010 Haiti earthquake in which she gave the earnings of the concert at New York’s Radio City Music Hall that took place the 24th of January, 2010 and the profits from her official online store for the country’s reconstruction. She collected an estimated total of US$500,000. After the 2011 Tokio earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan on March 11th,2011, she designed a bracelet to raise funds to help on the reconstruction of the country. In within a month she raised $1.5 million. On 2012 Gaga donate $1 million to the American Red Cross to help the victims of Hurricane Sandy. She also contributes in the fight against HIV and AIDS by focusing on the education of young women for what she donated $202 million.

Notable Actions[edit]

Lady Gaga, along with her mother, established “Born This Way Fundation” in 2011 to foster a more accepting society, where differences are embraced and individuality is celebrated. This Foundation has the aim to create a safe community that ‘helps connect young people with the skills and opportunities they need to build a braver, kinder world’. Gaga also supports different health organizations such as “ Alzheimer's Association”, “Stand Up To Cancer”, “Lupus Foundation of America”, “American Foundation for AIDS Research” or “M•A•C AIDS Fund”. She also supports “Artists for Peace and Justice” that encourages peace and social justice and addresses issues of poverty and enfranchisement in communities around the world, as well as with OXFAM. She is supporting as well programs from “It Gets Better Project” or “The Trevor Project” which seek for the respect of the homosexuality.
