Jose de Faria Costa
Jose de Faria Costa, born 26 January 1950, is the current Ombudsman of Portugal. He completed his degree in the Faculty of Law at the University of Coimbra from 1970 to 1974 and his post-graduate studies in the same faculty, focusing on Legal and Criminal Sciences. He obtained a PhD from the Faculty of Law in 1992.

Professional Career[edit]
After completing his studies, Ombudsman Jose de Faria Costa became a member of the editorial boards and scientific councils of a number of domestic and foreign journals, as well as President of the Portuuese Group of the International Association of Penal Law in 1998. He later became a Reviewer of the Department of Criminal Law at the Law Faculty of the university of Sao Paolo in 2005 and acted as Director of Printing for the University of Coimbra between 2005 and 2009. He was then appointed President of the Governing Council of the Faculty of Law of the University of Coimbra from 2005 to 2009, before serving as President of the Insitute of Economic and European Criminal Court in 2009. He was invited to be a Member of the Supreme Judicial Council in 2009 and appointed Ombudsman of Portugal in 2013.
Notable work[edit]
Ombudsman Jose de Faria Costa has contributed to a number of publications on criminal law. In addition, he joined Portugal’s literary world in 1999, publishing under the pseudonym of Francisco d’Eulalia, and has published more books of poetry since.
