Helen Grant

Helen Grant (born 28 September 1961) is a British Conservative Party politician. She was elected in 2010 as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Maidstone and The Weald in Kent, which made her the Conservatives' first female black MP.

Political career[edit]

Grant was a non-executive director of the Croydon NHS Primary Care Trust from January 2005 until retiring in March 2007 to concentrate on becoming an MP. In 2012 she was appointed Joint Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the Ministry of Justice for Women and Equality. She is also the current Minister for Sport and Equalities.

Education[edit]

Grant studied law at the University of Hull, undertook solicitors' finals at the College of Law in Guildford and qualified as a solicitor in 1988.
