Gordon Raymond Banks (born 14 June 1955) is a British Labour Party politician, who has been the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ochil and South Perthshire since 2005.

Political Career[edit]

Banks was elected at the 2005 general election and shortly after became a member of the Regulatory Reform Committee, the Unopposed Bills (Panel) Committee, the Scottish Affairs Committee and the Northern Ireland Affairs Select Committee. In May 2006 he became a PPS to James Purnell, and subsequently left the Scottish and Northern Ireland committees. In October 2010 he was appointed as one of the Shadow Ministers of the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills. He resigned in April 2011 in order to concentrate on his constituency.

Education[edit]

Gordon Banks was educated at Lornshill Academy in Alloa and went on to study at Glasgow College of Building (previously known as City and Guilds Construction Technology and Concrete Practice 1976) He graduated from Stirling University with a BA in History and Politics
