David Anthony Currie

David Anthony Currie, Baron Currie of Marylebone was born on 9th December 1946. He is a British economist and a member of the House of Lords.

Political Career[edit]

In 1992 he became an Advisor at the Conservative Government's Treasury Department on economic matters. In 1996 he was made a Life Peer and sits as a crossbench member of the House of Lords. He joined the House of Lords in 1996 as crossbench. From 2002 to 2009, he was the inaugural Chairman of the Office of Communications (Ofcom). From 2008 to 2012 he was member of the Economic Affairs Committee. He is the Chairman of the Competition and Markets Authority, and Governor of the Institute of Government.

Education[edit]

Currie studied mathematics at Manchester University and then he obtained a masters degree in National Economic Planning at Birmingham University. He worked as economist and in 1998 he was appointed as Professor of Economics at the London Business School. In 2012 he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Science by the City University.
