Charles Michel was born on December 21st 1975 in Namur (Belgium). He got elected as member of the Belgian Chamber of Representatives for the Walloon Liberal Party (MR) after the national elections on 25 May 2014. In October 2014, he became Prime Minister of Belgium. Meanwhile, he is mayor of Wavre since 2006.

Political Career[edit]

Charles Michel started his political career at a very young age. First, he became party leader of the Youth branch of the MR in 1992. From 1995 to 1999, he held a seat in the provincial council of Vlaams Brabant. In 1999, at the age of 23, he became the youngest national parliamentarian at the time. A year later, Charles Michel was offered the position of Walloon Minister of internal affairs, he accepted. Since 2006, he has been mayor of Wavre. From the period 2007-2011, he was Belgian Minister of development in four consecutive governments. On January 28th 2011, he was elected as party leader of the Walloon liberals (MR). In the national elections on May 25th 2014, he won a seat in the Belgian Chamber of Representatives. Since October 11th 2014, Charles Michel has been Prime Minister of Belgium.

Charles Michel graduated in law at the Université Libre de Bruxelles and the University of Amsterdam.
