Bhp Billiton is one of the leading companies in the mining and natural resources industry. It is an anglo-australian company that was created in 2001 by the merger of two huge mining companies, called Bhp and Billiton. The company produces aluminium, nickel, silver, uranium, gold, coal, iron ore, oil and gas and is also involved in marketing activities. The vision of Bhp is to build a long-term relationship with the community and take care of health, safety and environment. The company also tries to implement the sustainability in its activities.

The company respects the human rights of their employees. They also help the community in the field of health care, education and donating lot of money. They support education and health care as well, and try to coordinate all of their activities according to sustainability. The company cooperates with business schools from all over the world, like Melbourne, Johannesburg, Santiago and Houston. They are also in cooperation with University College London and Energy Policy Institute in Adelaide with which they launched a Natural Resources Initiative for Sustainability. The company operates according with the United Nations (UN) Universal Declaration of Human Rights, UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and the UN Global Compact Principles. The Charter of the company and Code of Business Conduct is defined on the basis of these documents.

Activities in the Field of Humanitarian Aid[edit]

Bhp Billiton actively participates in charity. They gave 25 million dollars to a program that helps to improve the health of children and women in Africa. Also 28,6 million dollars was spent on a charity in Colombia, where Bhp Billiton will help to vulnerable people, including women, youth and displaced men. Most of the employees of Bhp Billiton also give donations, as well make voluntary work to help the local communities.

Supporting Music and Visual Arts[edit]

The company also supports music and arts. Bhp Billiton has been a sponsor of the Melbourne Commonwealth Games since 2006 and they also provide the silver for the silver medals. Bhp Billiton was the sponsor of “New Beijing, Great Olympics”, which was a sport exhibition about the Olympics. The company also tries to give opportunities to Australian children engage in sports, so they built swimming pools by the program of Swim and Survive. It improves the education, training and sports in West Australia.
