Baroness Hanham

Joan Hanham was born on the 23rd September, 1939. She is a representative of the Conservative Party in the House of Lords.

Political Career[edit]

Before becoming a member of the House of Lords, Hanham was the leader of the Kensington and Chelsea London Borough Council from 1989 until 2000. She became a member of the House of Lords on the 15th July 1999, receiving the title Baroness Hanham of Kensington in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. She held the position of Parliamentary Under-Secretary at the Department for Communities and Local Government from 2010-2013. She has also been on three committees during her time in parliament. From 2001-2002 she was on the Procedure Committee. Hanham then worked on the Draft Modern Slavery Bill in 2014. She is currently working on the Communications Committee. Hanham tends to focus upon policies concerning ‘Communities and Families’, ‘European Union’, ‘Health Services and Medicine’, ‘Housing and Planning’ and ‘Parliament, Government and Politics’.
