Axel Kassegger

Axel Kassegger, born on January 4, 1966 in Friesach (Kärnten), is an Austrian politician, entrepreneur and a Member of Parliament for the FPÖ (Freiheitliche Partei Österreichs; Freedom Party of Austria) since 2013.

Political career[edit]

Kassegger was a functionary of the Ring Freiheitlicher Students in Graz from 1987 to 1992. He worked from 2007 to 2009 as a local party Vice Chairman of the FPÖ in Gratwein and from 2007 to 2009 as a member of the district party leadership of the FPÖ Graz-Umgebung, before he became a member of the city party leadership of the FPÖ Graz in 2009 and district party chairman of the FPÖ Graz-Innere Stadt. He has also been a member of the State party executive of the FPÖ Steiermark since 2009,. In addition, he is the treasurer of the Freedom Academic Association Steiermark. Kassegger was candidate in the national elections of 2013 and gained a mandate in the county constituency Steiermark. He was sworn in on October 29, 2013 as a deputy.

Education[edit]

Kassegger attended the Federal High School until 1984 and Bundesrealgymnasium in Hallein and did his military service after high school from 1984 to 1985. He studied Law at the University of Graz between 1987 and 1997, and completed his undergraduate studies in 1992 with a Masters degree. His completed his doctoral studies between 1995 and 1997 at the University of Graz. He wrote his dissertation on "The development of the social security rights of workers and employees in the First Republic" and received the academic degree of Doctor of Law. Kassegger also studied Sport Sciences at the University level, which he completed in 1996 with an academic Master degree. In addition, he simultaneously studied from 1989 Business Administration at the University of Graz and received his degree in 1994.
