Sigmund Ehrmann, born on the 24th of January 1952 in Moers is a German politician and a member of the Social Democratic Party (SPD) of the German Bundestag.

Political Career[edit]

From 1968 until 2002 he has worked as an official of the city of Moers. In his most recent role there, from 1994 until 2002 he was head of the department for personnel and cultural affairs in Moers. He joined the Social Democratic Party (SPD) in 1970. From 1984 until 1990 he was a council member and group executive board member of the city council Neukirchen-Vluyn. From 1991 until 2000 he was a board member of the SPD Neukirchen-Vluyn. 2003 until 2013 he was the chairman of the SPD City Association Moers. He has been a member of parliament since 2002. September 2003 until December 2007 he has been a spokesman of the SPD group in the Enquete-Commission “Culture in Germany”. From 2009 until 2011 he has been a lecturer of churches and religious communities, and from 2009 until January 2014 he has been a speaker of the SPD working group Culture and Media of the SPD Parliamentary Group. Since January 2014 he is the Chairman of the Committee for Culture and Media and a member of the Art Council at the German Bundestag.

Notable Work[edit]

He has had a high level of engagement and involvement in the church youth work and participated in developmental, peace and environmental initiatives. From 1974 until 1985 he has been the Chairman of the YMCA Neukirchen e.V.
