Nestlé is a multinational company, which has its headquarters in Vevey, Switzerland. It is the biggest company in the food sector in the world by revenues, and provides products like baby food, coffee, dairy products, breakfast cereals, confectionery, bottled water, ice cream, pet foods and etc.

Engagement in Cultural Diplomacy

The company has set up a Code of Business Conduct in order to promote ethical working values. The company has also listed several business principles that it is promoting to respect. The company’s focus is on music, as well as arts and films. Nestle company invested in the event called Mentor Nestle Nesquik Toruń Cup 2014. It was an event from 8 till 11 January 2014 before the Olympics in Sochi, it took place in Toruń in Poland. About 180 skaters from 25 countries took part in this contest. It was international contest for children and junior skaters.

Employment Policy

Nestlé wants diversity and gender balance to stay at the top of the agenda of the company. The company has also signed up to the “Women’s Empowerment Principles” concerning gender balance initiatives. Nestlé has been recognized by “Fundación ParaLife” for its “Awareness and Occupational Inclusion Program”, which is focused on diversity in a workplace. Lately the company introduced a new programme “European Youth Employment Initiative” which aims to hire 10 000 young people (aged below 30) by 2016. International Internship Programs

Nestle Summer Internship programme offers the chance to get hands-on experience in the world's leading nutrition, health and wellness company. It introduces to a potential future work environment and allows to test interns' interest in a particular career before making permanent commitments. Furthermore, it develops skills in applying theory to practical work situations. The programme takes place in York or at the Gatwick offices or in one of the factories around the UK and Ireland. Nestle offers a range of internship types, including Sales, Marketing, Manufacturing, SHE, HR and Finance. The programme takes place for 10 weeks over the summer - from the end of June until the end of August.

Grants and Scholarships

The company has developed local initiatives to strengthen relations between managers and employees. Moreover The Nestle Nutrition Institute Africa (NNIA) in its core activities supports research around the continent in the areas of nutrition and human health related to nutrition. The scientific board has been supporting research projects over the years with emphasis on those leading to Masters and Doctors of Philosophy degrees in various scientific disciplines. Healthcare professionals are encouraged to apply for postgraduate research funding and scholarship opportunities, to be conducted within the African continent.

Activities in the Field of Humanitarian Aid

The company has listed ten corporate business principles concerning human rights and working conditions. Nestlé has a “Creating Shared Value” policy in order to provide its support to solve global and local issues in the areas of nutrition, water and rural development. The company has also written a Code of Business Conduct, an official document, in order to promote ethical working values. In April 2014 Nestle organised a stakeholder consultation on approach to human rights and rural development, including the nexus between these two topics in the context of Nestlé’s business activities. The roundtable gathered twenty human rights and rural development experts from NGOs, intergovernmental organisations, think tanks, consultancies and trade associations.

Supporting Music & Visual Arts

Nestlé ChocFest is the biggest music festival event of the year of Nestle brand. Nestlé has created a foundation called “Fondation Nestlé pour l’Art” in order to promote art. Nestlé Philippines has also produced a 100-minute ‘Sine Kasambuhay Film Anthology’ of ten short films directed by a number of commercial directors who have previously led television commercials for Nestlé in the Philippines” (Nestlé official website).

Promoting Human and Civil Rights

In cooperation with the Red Cross, Nestlé helps families who have been affected by floods in Mozambique. Moreover the company donated over 450,000 liters of bottled water to people in need as well as fortified milk powder to people in the region.
