Engagement in Cultural Diplomacy[edit]

Michelin Group believes that improving performance and applying the highest ethical standard in its business practices are perfectly compatible. Jean-Dominique Senard (CEO and chairman of the Manager Board) affirmed, “In all our host countries, we are deeply committed to conducting our business with integrity. The future success of our employees and our Group will be best ensured if all of us embrace the Group’s core values, as presented in the Michelin Performance and Responsibility Charter and the Code of Ethics.” An ethics and compliance committee was set up for each geographic zone in the company in 2012. By complying with these exacting ethical standards, Michelin wishes to heighten its attractiveness. Michelin is also fighting for diversity through multi-action program, which is promoting open-mindedness and combating judgement of values. One of the main initiatives is focused towards woman encouragement to join the company, especially at management level, as well emerging local management, especially in developing areas.

Employment Policy[edit]

Currently, there are more than 110,000 people of different nationalities working for a Michelin Group around the world. The diversity is one of the main sources of creativity for the Group. The base of the relations between the Company and its employees are respect for individuals, development, dialogue, passion and confidence. The Group's respect toward social status of its employees is reflected in its social benefits policy. Michelin is topping up the national systems in terms of health, life and disability and pensions. The group is granting the benefits, which are comparable to those in the most countries where the group is located.

Education and Jobs[edit]

Grants And Scholarships[edit]

Each year Michelin’s international scholarship program allows more than 20 students from its partner universities around the world, selected by the recruitment process in their countries (India, Brazil, Thailand, Romania, Serbia...) to study for one or two years in France with financial support from Michelin. The program objectives are to identify high potential applicants, accompany the training of future managers and technical staff in host countries, develop a network with previous scholarship-holders and to promote French education and France.

The company offers “the Michelin’s international scholarship program” that is run in partnership with countries’ embassies. The students receive a Scholarship-holder status from the French government. Certain French authorities also have cooperative operations in this Program (e.g. the French région Centre and the Tamil Nadu, in India). The company gives 20 scholarships every year.

Notable Activities[edit]

Promoting Human- and Civil Rights[edit]

The company recognizes the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the conventions of the International Labor Organization. These principles and guidelines have provided inspiration for the Group’s internal reference documents, particularly the Michelin Performance and Responsibility Charter the Michelin Code of Ethics, Moving Forward Together, the Manager’s Guide, and the new Michelin Purchasing Principles.

Activities in the Field of Humanitarian Aid[edit]

An example of humanitarian aid in which Michelin in involved is the “Respecting villager rights in India”. Since 2010, Michelin Group has been working with 13 local and national NGOs, civil society representatives and local authorities. Outreach projects are underway in the areas of health (general medicine, eye care, gynecology and mobile clinics), education (primary education for children and vocational training for young adults), support for the disadvantaged (women, widows, the disabled and minorities), water (natural irrigation, household water and drinking water), employment (local business creation), the environment (biogas energy program) and road safety (prevention measures). Michelin is involved in the activities run by these institutions and provides the expertise and financial support. The Group is focusing on four areas: education, culture and sports activities, the mobility of people and goods and charitable activities.

Promoting Sports[edit]

The interest of the company in the car racing can be reflected in the last year sponsorship agreements, both new and retaken ones. A few examples are that Michelin signed a new three years sponsorship for the Clio Cup Series (2013) and that Michelin extended its sponsorship deal with the Sebring International Raceway in Florida for another year
(2013). In the same year, Michelin extended its deal with MotoGP promoters Dorna Sports to remain as the official tyre supplier of the second-tier Moto2 category in the CEV Spanish championship series.
