Mendes Bota

José Mendes Bota was born on August 4th, 1955. He is an Economist and an entrepreneur and he currently serves as a Deputy at the Portuguese National Assembly.

Political Career[edit]

Mendes Bota was elected by the electoral circle of Faro for the Social Democratic Party to serve as a Deputy on the XII Legislature (2011-2015). He has also served as deputy on the previous five Legislatures, except in the VIII. From 1989 to 1994 and from 1998 to 1999 he served as Deputy for the European Parliament. He was also Deputy at the Council of Europe Assembly in 1988, 1989 and from 2005 onwards. From 1982 to 1985 he served as Mayor of Loulé City Hall. He is currently a member of various Parliamentary Commissions including as the President of the Commission for Ethics, Citizenship and Communication.

Mendes Bota is a graduate in Economics and has a postgraduate degree in Companies Management.

Mendes Bota has been awarded prizes and medals, in particular the medal from Western Europe Union Parliamentary Assembly in 2011 and the medal of honour by the European People´s Party in 1999.
