Mario de Marco

Mario de Marco was born the 18th of October, 1965. He is a Maltese politician and academic currently serving as a Member of Parliament.

Political Career[edit]

Mario de Marco was nominated as Vice-Chairman of the Parliamentary House Committee in the House of Representatives in the 2003-2008 parliamentary term. He is also a member of the Parliamentary Committee for European and Foreign Affairs. During the general election in March 2008 he was appointed as member of the Cabinet and as Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism, within Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi's office. In January 2012, he was elected Minister for Environment, Tourism and Culture. During the March 2013 general election he was re-elected to parliament and was appointed as the Nationalist deputy leader for parliamentary affairs in May that year. Mario de Marco is a member of House Business Committee and Economic and Financial Affairs Committee, Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism, the Environment and Culture: 2008; Minister for Tourism, the Environment and Culture from 2012 to 2013; Nationalist deputy leader for parliamentary affairs from 2013.

Education[edit]

De Marco attended the St. Aloysius College and the Cambridge University, UK, where he graduated in International Commercial Law. In these years he was nominated a Commonwealth Scholar for Academic Achievement. He specialized in Commercial Law and also in Fundamental Human Rights. He is Commercial Law lecturer at the University of Malta.
