Charles Mangion is a member of parliament of the Republic of Malta for the twelfth legislation.

Political career[edit]

Born in 1952 in Pietà, Charles Mangion was elected for the first time in 1987 and participated in seven legislatures for the Labour Party. From 1992 and 1994, he served as Shadow Minister of Home Affairs and between 1994 and 1996, he served as Shadow Minister of Industry and Local Government. In addition, from 1992 and 1996 he worked as a Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives. He was also Minister of Justice and Local Government from 1996 to 1998. In May 2003 he was elected as a Deputy Leader of the Party for parliamentary affairs. In 2003 he was also the Shadow Minister for the Economy and Finance. On 1 October 2008, Mangion resigned as Leader of the Opposition.

Education[edit]

He started his primary education in Hal Luqa and continued his secondary level education at the Lyceum in Hamrun. He graduated from the University of Malta with a B.A. (Hons.) degree in English Literature in 1974. In 1982 he achieved the Doctorate in Law. He is a notary and runs his own company, Mangion & Mangion Ltd.
