The company also publishes a Sustainability Report every year since 2003 and owns a Code of Ethics which both have an impact on Cultural Diplomacy, the company’s environmental strategy of the efficient use of resources and the environmental policy. The company, “has awarded various scholarships and grants to students and young researchers selected from among the candidates of the various calls for applications announced in 2013” (Iberdrola Foundation). Moreover, “for the 2014-2015 academic years, the Foundation has announced new scholarships and research grants” (Iberdrola Foundation). Moreover the company “has developed the Hello-Hola cultural exchange program to advance visits between children of employees from different countries” (Iberdrola Official Website).

Notable Activities

Activities in the Field of Humanitarian Aid

As its name suggests, “Fundación IBERDROLA” is a registered charity funded entirely by Iberdrola. The foundation has been committed to the energy, cultural and social development of the communities where it operates. The “Fundación IBERDROLA” supports various charitable projects and has signed collaboration agreements with leading institutions in the field of cooperation and solidarity. For example, the “Fundación Solidaridad Internacional”, which it has supported since 1986, helps the most underprivileged populations of countries in the South through the identification and execution of development cooperation and humanitarian action projects, education for development and awareness-raising activities, and promotion and dissemination of Fair Trade” (Iberdrola and Iberdrola Foundation Official Websites).

Supporting Music & Visual Arts

Iberdrola has developed a partnership with the “Fundación Orquesta Sinfónica de la Región de Murcia”. “Its aims are to contribute to promoting this entity's objectives by organising concerts, editing publications, promoting composers, teaching music, training young audiences and spreading the musical wealth of the Murcia Region” (Iberdrola Foundation). Moreover, Iberdrola “collaborates with the Museo de Bellas Artes de Bilbao by sponsoring major exhibitions organized by this institution” (Iberdrola Foundation). “Fundación IBERDROLA and Fundación de Ayuda contra la Drogadicción (FAD) have launched a short animated film to encourage young people between the ages of 14 and 25 years to reflect critically on how they spend their leisure time, alcohol consumption and its consequences”.

Promoting Human and Civil Rights

As explained above, Iberdrola has two principal tools to enforce respect for Human Rights: a document about its Social Responsibility Policy and an Ethical Code that the company published on its official website. By performing such actions, Iberdrola wants to show that it respects and promotes human rights.
