Foteinh Pipili was born in Athens, on 7 February 1950.She is a Greek journalist and politician and member of the Greek Parliament for the New Democracy for the Athens A constituency.

Political Career[edit]

She has been Transitional Mayor of Athens in 2006, Candidate Leader of the Perfecture in Athens in 2006, and Athens Town Councilor 1986-2004. Since 1994 she has been constantly elected, for three consecutive quadrennials. She was first in votes, as Athens Town Councilor. For 15 years, she has been the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the town corporation D.E.P.P.E., rich action in environmental issues and issues concerning the Quality of life. She has been the creator of National Programmes of the Hellenic Ministry of the Environment, Physical Planning and Public Works, “Clean Seas and Coasts”- “The Country’s Lakes and Rivers” and the worldwide well known website “Thalassa gr”. The country’s political and spiritual leadership and the European Commissioner for the Environment, Ms Margaret Walstrom, gave Ms Pipili special credit for her contribution and she was awarded with the first prize from the Athens Water Supply and Sewerage Company (EYDAP SA). An author- a photographer, she has published two books: “My best weekends and………more”, Livani Editions 2004, “Olympic Land” on behalf of the Ministry of Civilization 2004 Swedish Government’s Scholar, concerning “Woman emigrant in Sweden” in 1984. She attended seminars of television journalism in New York and in a College in Oxford “Media and drama”.

She has studied law in the Aristotelian University of Thessaloniki.She also speaks English.

Notable Work[edit]

In 1973, during the military junta, she became the first female reporter in the state military television channel IENED.

She was member of the Town Council of Athens from 1986 to 1994. In February 2006 she was acting Mayor for a week replacing Dora Bakoyannis.

In 2007 she was elected MP of the Greek Parliament for the first time. She retained her seat in the 2009 elections.

In March 2010, she starred in the Greek version of "Dancing with the Stars" on channel ANT1.
