About Continental[edit]

Continental AG is a German company, specializing in manufactring brake systems, tires, powertain, chassi, components and other parts of automotives. Continental was founded in 1871 in Hanover, Germany. It is the fourth largest tire manufacturer of the world. Since 2008 Schäffler AG is the leader of the company, while it owns 49,9% of Continental´s shares. the company has 5 main divisions, they are: Powertain, Interior, ContiTech, Tires and Chassis & Safety. Continental produces tires not only for automobiles, but also for motocycles and bicycles. All the big automobile manufacturer companies are the customers of Continental, including Volkswagen AG, Porsche, BMW AG, Daimler AG, Ford, Toyota, Volvo, Honda and etc.

Engagement in Cultural Diplomacy[edit]

Continental AG tries to implement sustainability in their activities and in this way minimize the negative consequences and protect the society and environment. This means, that the product of Continental AG don´t create more pollution of air, earth and water. Also the manufacturing activities of the company are environment friendly and include recycling. They try to create the best working environment for their employees. Continental AG respects the human rights and international laws and hires their employees without discrimination.

Employment Policy[edit]

We can find their subsidiaries, factories and shops on all of the continents and they hire 177,762 employees. The company operates at 300 locations in 49 countries. 60% of the workforce we can find in Europe and from the other 40%, 19% is in Asia. 47,429 workers are working in Germany. While 118,873 workers are working outside of Germany. From this 2,025 employees are trainees, intern or students. The percentage of female workers is 27,6%. The employees are most of the time satisfied, what we can see from the average years of service to the company, what is 14,7 years. Average age of the employees is 43 years. The company tries to improve the present 9% of females in the management to 16% by 2020. The percentage of international managers is 33%.

Cultural Exchange Programs[edit]

The company also gives the opportunity to their employees to change countries and helps them to make this big step in their careers. The employees just have to ask for this request and the corporation tries to offer them the best conditions. For Continental AG it is important to have managers and engineers with international background and exchange their experiences, learn new techniques and languages.

Education[edit]

Thanks to the trainee and internship programs of the company over 600 young graduates and students start to work for the company each year. The company offers internship programs and also cooperates and helps at the writing of the closing academic works of the students.

International Internship Program[edit]

Continental AG offers opportunities for university students to spend their internships at the company. They try to help to the Youth to get the needed experience and the future leaders can learn from the best managers. These internships are available not only in Germany, but also all around the world from Romania to USA.

Grants and Scholarships[edit]

The company offers many scholarship programs also in economics and business administration, not only focusing on engineering and science.

Cooperation with Universities[edit]

Continental is running a program, based on cooperation with universities. “Continental Universities” offer to the employees higher education oportunities. It was developed in 2005 and is promoting the worldwide strategy of Continental AG to give lifelong learning opportunities and training of employees. The program runs in Mexico, Germany, USA, Philippines and Romania.

Promoting Human- and Civil Rights[edit]

Conitnental AG is a member of the United Nations Global Compact and is supporting its 10 global principles of human rights, corruption, environment and labour.

Activities in the Field of Humanitarian Aid[edit]

Currently, Continental AG is donating 100,000$ for the victims of the flood in Pakistan. The victims are around 14 million peoeple and the donation will be spend on medical services, relief supplies and drinking water. Continental also helps young people in Brasil, by a social project about taking young people from the street and protecting them from drugs and offering music and sport facilities, personal hygiene, a home and food.

Supporting Film Industry[edit]

Continental AG takes part in the Industrial Film Activities. In 2000 the company´s bionic film won a price at the German Industrial Film Festival.

Supporting Sports[edit]

Continental AG is a big sponsor of football, the company was the official sponsor of the UEFA Champions League between 1995 and 2000, UEFA EURO 2008, 2016, FIFA World Cup 2006, 2010 and 2014. It also offers opportunities for young people to play football, while they organize football- and training camps. Continental also supports Hannover 96, Bayern Munich and Eintracht Frankfurt football club and football academy and the American MLS league. The company is also official sponsor of many individual German football players and there is a well-known shortfilm with Timo Hildebrand ex-representative of the German National Team.
