Brandt Report[edit]

The Brandt Report was written in 1980 by the Independent Commission chaired by former German Chancellor Willy Brandt to provide a deeper understanding of international development. The main finding of the report was the conclusion that there are drastic differences in standards of living between countries in the Northern hemisphere and countries in the Southern hemisphere and the recommendation that more goods and services should be transferred from developed nations to developing ones to address this imbalance. The report led to the Brandt line, which is an imaginary line used to illustrate the North-South divide.
