In the elections of 2007, Spiliotopoulos was re-elected in the same region but this time coming sixth in votes for his party. In the elections of October 2009, Spiliotopoulos achieved first place for votes in his region for New Democracy, despite the general defeat of New Democracy. In successive elections in May and June 2012, Spiliotopoulos was re-elected despite a reduction in the popularity rating of New Democracy. He showed little parliamentary activity during this tenure. He resigned in February 2014 to become the mayor of Athens.
