Ana Blatnik, born on July 19, 1957 in Ludmannsdorf, is an Austrian politician for the Sozialdemokratische Partei Österreichs (SPÖ; Austrian Social Democratic Party) and vocational school teacher. She was a short-term member of the Austrian Federal Council in 2000-2004. In the second half of 2014, Blatnik held the position of Federal President.

Political Career[edit]

Ana Blatnik has been the President of the Federal Council since 2014. She has also been Member of the Federal Council for SPÖ since 2004. In addition, Blatnik has multiple political functions in the municipality Kärnten, where she has been a Member of the Regional Party Bureau and President of SPÖ Women since 2009. She has also been the State Party Deputy Chairwomen since 2012.  

Education[edit]

Blatnik attended elementary school from 1963-1967 and from attended the Federal High School for Slovenes in Klagenfurt from 1967-1972. In 1972 she began an apprenticeship as a retail saleswoman. She attended the Commercial Vocational School where she studied retail sales until she completed her apprenticeship in 1975. Blatnik worked as a clerk for five years from 1975-1980, and afterwards graduated from the Business Academy for professionals. In 1980 she took up a position as a vocational school teacher. Blatnik was a vocational school teacher until 2009.
