John B. Emerson was confirmed by the United States Senate on August 1st 2013 as U.S. Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany. He and his family arrived in Berlin on August 15th 2013. Since then Mr. Emerson has been active in civic and social affairs, and has participated in many cultural and societal events in the city of Berlin. One of these has been the FRUIT LOGISTICA occurrence, which has been taking place over the last few days.

This event has grown to be the world’s largest trade show for fruits, vegetables, dried fruits and nuts, and associated equipment and services. Over the course of three days, the show attracted about 65,000 trade visitors from nearly 140 countries. The United States played an important role in the exposition with its 21 companies that have exhibited their products and services at the USA Pavilion, ranging from apples, pears, dates, pistachios, dried fruits, sweet potatoes, citrus, tropical and exotic fruits and produce packaging membranes designed to naturally extend the shelf life of fresh products.

FRUIT LOGISTICA covers every single sector of the fresh produce business and provides a complete picture of the latest innovations, products and services at every linkage in the international supply chain. It thus offers superb networking and contact opportunities to the key decision-makers in every sector of the industry. During the past days companies from across the entire fresh produce sector, from global players to small and medium-sized companies and organisations from all over the world, were present in Berlin.
