Alexander Pechtold

Alexander Pechtold was born on the 16th of December 1965 in Delft. He is a member of the Dutch House of Representatives for the Democrats 66 Party (D66). He has been the chairperson of the D66-fraction in the House of Representatives since 2006,.

Political career[edit]

Before his political career, he was an auctioneer and a deputy-director at Van Stockum’s Auctions, in The Hague between 1992 and 1997. Between 1994 and 2002 he was a member of the city council in the municipality of Leiden. From 1997 to 2003 he was an alderman in the municipality of Leiden, where he was responsible for sport, culture, recreation, monuments and environment (1997-2002), major cities policy (1998-2002), education (2002-2003) and traffic and transport (2002-2003). He was the mayor of Wageningen between 2003 and 2005. Subsequently, between 2005 and 2006, he was a minister without portfolio.

Education[edit]

In 1995 he received his auctioneer’s diploma. Besides, he studied art history and archaeology at the University of Leiden until 1996.
